My Nissan Sentra B12

From 1985 - 1991, the B12 – code given to car model, was not as widely exported, apart from the station wagon model. This line is characterized by its squared-off styling, which was very unfashionable in the 1980s. The angular styling was insisted upon by Nissan's design chief at the time and contributed to the automaker's increasingly poor sales of the period. A four-wheel-drive variant was introduced during this generation. Known as Sentra in some markets.

The second-generation Sentra was available in a multitude of body styles, including a coupe, a sedan, a wagon, a hatchback and a Sport Coupe fastback. Engine output ranged from 69 to 90 hp, depending on the year. Many of these Nissan Sentras are still on the road, and they have a respectable reputation for reliability and a miserly fuel appetite.

Here in the Philippines Nissan Sentra was first introduced in the late 1980s with two engine variants of gas and diesel engines which sold thousands of units that time. With it’s box type sedan vehicle, the 1.5 gasoline engine became popular to many Filipinos and until now there are still several good units running in the metro.

Today, a second hand 1990 Nissan Sentra would cost you around $661 - $1,207. Still price varies depending on the condition of the car. Not bad for a 17 year old car isn’t it?

History

Nissan Sunny

The Nissan Sunny is a small car manufactured by Nissan of Japan. It was launched in 1966 as the Datsun 1000 and although production in Japan ended in 2004, it remains in production today for the African and American markets. In the US, the later models were known as the Nissan Sentra; in Mexico, the Sunny is known as the Nissan Tsuru.

The Sunny fitted neatly into Nissan model line. It was larger than the supermini Nissan March (Micra) models, but not as big as the compact Bluebird or Stanza models. The latest versions of the Sunny were larger than the early models, and may be considered compact cars. Earlier versions (through at least the B11 series) were subcompact cars. All Sunnys through the 1982 model year (except as noted below) used Nissan A engine motors.

The name has been used on some European export versions of the Nissan Pulsar between 1986 and 1995, and is still used on some Asian export versions of the same car. In countries such as New Zealand, the Sunny and Pulsar ranges were combined into a single model range, the Nissan Sentra—which differed (apart from the station wagon) from the models sold under the same name in the United States. In South Africa it was sold as the Nissan Sabre.

Interest on Nissan Sentra/Sunny

I currently own a 1989 model diesel engine Nissan Sentra / Sunny - in US. Here in the Philippines it is known as Nissan box type which I believe the best Sentra ever produced and launched here in the Philippines. I bought this car for Php 62,000 almost 2 years ago. Cheap car isn't?

I use this car everyday. From Mondays - Sundays, this car is with me everywhere I go because the car doesn't consume diesel that much. It consumes around 560 kms - 580 kms in 1 full tank. 1 full tank would cost around Php 1200 - 1300.

Before, I was planning to restore this car and bring it back to its original look. I was optimistic that I could soon restore this car soon. I know it would cost me a lot to restore this car. Paint was chipping off, rust all over the car etc etc.

Last December 2007, I decided to bring it to MSG garage c/o Lito Galvez, my uncle to fix the car. A small garage somewhere in Mandaluyong. He restores muscle car - Mustang, Thunderbird, name it. With the condition of the car, I'm sure a lot of work is needed to bring it back to its original form.
